Insurance

All appointments are considered fee-for-service, meaning you are expected to pay the appointment fee at the time of service. NOVA PS is not contracted with any insurance companies, which means that NOVA PS providers are considered out-of-network (OON). You will be provided with a statement for reimbursement at the end of each month (Superbill). You can submit our Superbill along with your insurance company’s medical claim form. If you have OON benefits, your insurance company may reimburse you for a portion or all of your fees. Reimbursement rates typically range between 40-80%. To determine if your insurance company provides reimbursement, contact your insurer directly.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY PRIOR TO INITIATING SERVICES

We recommend having the following conversation with your insurance company:

“Hello, I’m planning to see a psychologist who does not take my insurance. Will I be reimbursed for therapy if I see an out-of-network provider?”

If Yes, ask your insurance company the following questions:

1. Will the following CPT codes be covered:

  • 90791 – Diagnostic Interview

  • 90834 – Individual Therapy (45-minute visit)

  • 90837 - Individual Therapy (60-minute visit)

  • 90847 – Family Therapy

  • 90846 – Family Therapy w/o Patient

  • “-95” modifier – For Telehealth Visits (CPT codes will have an added "-95" modifer. For instance, a telehealth Initital Diagnositc Evaluation CPT Code would be 90791-95)

2. If yes, how much is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of the deductible have I met?

3. After meeting my deductible, what percentage of my session fees will you pay, for example, if the fee is $280? If the fee is $210?

4. What percentage do you cover and is that a percentage of the total fee or the “usual and customary fee?”

5. If it is a percentage of the “usual and customary fee’” what is that amount?

6. Is any paperwork required of me before beginning services with my out-of-network provider? For example, do I need a preauthorization?

7. How many sessions are covered and within what time period?

BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH AN OON PROVIDER

Convenience of care

Confidentiality

Provider’s ability to focus on personalized services

Patients empowered to make their own choices throughout the treatment process

We recommend you contact your insurance company before beginning therapy to make sure that you have "out-of-network" coverage, meaning your insurance will pay for therapy with professionals who are not on their provider panel.
