Who we are
NOVA PS is a group practice whose providers are experts in the area of health psychology. Health psychologists have undergone rigorous training in chronic illnesses, and psychological treatments specific to working with medical conditions. Many health psychologists address common mental health concerns such as depression and anxiety, but they can also teach you strategies aimed at helping you cope with your illness or pain. Health psychologists (especially those specializing in chronic pain) speak the language of emotional and physical pain. In other words, they are experts in understanding the connection between the body and the mind!

Who we serve
Our providers have the specialty training and expertise in providing effective treatments to children, adolescents, and young adults. We create an empirically supported treatment plan that recognizes the patient’s individual needs, symptoms, and abilities.
Individual Therapy
We specialize in treating children, adolescents, and young adults with a variety of medical conditions, including chronic pain, headache conditions, epilepsy, GI disorders, and other medically complicated conditions. Our effective treatment approach emphasizes two scientifically validated therapies: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). We also integrate biofeedback and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) dependent on patient needs.
Parent / Family Interventions
For a variety of emotional and behavioral symptoms (e.g., chronic pain, anxiety, depression, ADHD) we adhere to an evidence-based model of treatment that suggests making changes to a child’s environment is integral to achieving positive outcomes. Therefore, we feel that a critical part of many treatment plans is to work with parents/caregivers to develop new ways of managing their child’s behavior and providing emotional support.
College Age / Young Adulthood
Young adulthood is an exciting time, but it is also a time that presents a set of unique and often overwhelming pressures. Sometimes you need extra support, new strategies, or another perspective on life, college demands, job stress, relationships, and parenting demands.
Therapy can teach you how to manage your symptoms, decrease the frequency and severity of episodes; think more calmly; cope with stress; improve your communication skills; confront your fears; and live a happier, healthier, and more peaceful life.

We offer telehealth (also referred to as telepsychological or teletherapy) services to residents of Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., as well as states that participate in The Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT). Click here for participating states.
